Speciality Clinics :

» COPD Clinic - Mondays & Tuesdays:

COPD Clinic is an outpatient clinic providing education and treatment plans to patients with COPD. Since most of our out patients include respiratory diseases of the chronic obstructive type, we provide comprehensive consultation evaluation and treatment via our COPD clinic. Our notably qualified and experienced team is made up of specialist doctors, nurses and physiotherapists who strive to provide seamless care across the spectrum of COPD severity, from early disease through to those needing more advanced treatments such as non-invasive ventilation.

» Pulmonary Rehabilitation Clinic - All Mondays & Tuesdays:

A dedicated team of pulmonary physiotherapists provides rehabilitation services for a quick recovery and support to lead a normal life to patients with chronic respiratory disorders such as emphysema, asthma and chronic bronchitis. Here we have a highly dedicated staff of professionals including a pulmonary physician, a respiratory therapist, exercise physiologist, a nurse specialist and a dietician who give round the clock specialised care to such patients.

» Sleep Clinic - All Wednesdays:

Here we provide Polysomnography or Sleep study which is a multi parametric test for patients with sleep or breathing disorders such as obstructive sleep apnoea. We evaluate all such patients with our state-of-the-art inpatient sleep laboratory facility. The study is usually performed over night in the sleep clinic under the supervision of a sleep technician & provide comprehensive multidisciplinary approach including non-invasive measures like CPAP or BiPAP or even surgical corrections if needed.

» Asthma Clinic - All Thursdays:

Asthma Clinic provides comprehensive, highly specialized care for patients with asthma. Our services include:-
• Diagnostic testing
• Physiologic and allergy evaluation
• Optimization of medical management
• Education in asthma self-management
Patients suffering from Asthma who are treated on an OPD basis are routinely taught about the disease, its different types, presenting symptoms and most commonly used medicines and inhalers. They are given demonstrations regarding the proper techniques as to use inhalers befittingly and also how to sufficiently self-manage their symptoms at home.

» Allergy Clinic - All Fridays:

Allergy clinic is particularly focused on management of allergic disorders particularly of the respiratory tract. Allergic Skin Prick test is performed and specific advice is given on various foods and substances to avoid. An allergy test is a skin test performed by trained allergy specialist to determine if your body has an allergic reaction to a known substance.

» TB Screening Clinic - All Saturdays:

This clinic is primarily for detection of Tuberculosis in the patients. Chest X-rays and Sputum analysis for AFB are done in suspicious patients presenting with cough of duration more than 2 weeks. This clinic also provides specific treatment for various adverse effects which can occur with Antitubercular drugs as well as provide advice on various foods to eat and various preventive measures.

COPD patients and other patients with obstructive airway diseases who are current smokers or who have quit within 6 months are referred and provided with awareness classes and stressed on the importance of smoking cessation. Specific advice is given on how to maintain abstinence and various techniques are suggested to stop smoking. Nicotine replacement therapies are also offered. Follow up is taken to ensure they remain abstinent.

Recently our department has very proudly introduced one of the latest most advanced diagnostic technology, EBUS - an ultrasound combined with Bronchoscopy used to obtain real time images in and around the bronchial tree or lungs. The biggest advantage of using EBUS is that the patient can avoid undergoing a more invasive surgical procedure, thus eliminating the need for any additional phases of testing and since it is done under conscious sedation, and patients can go home the same day. Bronchoscopy clinic has fibreoptic video bronchoscope and procedures like BAL, biopsies and brushings are performed. Pleural ultrasound, pleural biopsies, diagnostic thoracoscopy & thorocoscopic procedures such as talc pleurodesis and Arrow catheter insertion for malignant pleural effusion are also done.

Following facilities are available in this department:

»Spirometry :

It is a common test used to assess how well your lungs work by measuring how much air you inhale, how much you exhale and how quickly you exhale. Spirometry is used to diagnose asthma, COPD and other conditions that affect breathing.

DLCO (Diffusion capacity of Lungs for Carbon Monoxide(CO)) is measured using small volumes of carbon monoxide (CO) and measures the transfer of CO across the alveolar-capillary membrane. DLCO can assist in identification, assessment of wide range of disease processes affecting lung parenchyma & pulmonary vascular bed.

»Sleep Study :

A sleep study is a non-invasive overnight exam that allows doctors to monitor you while you sleep to see what’s happening in your brain and body. For this test, you will go to a sleep lab that is set up for overnight stay.

»Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) and Bronchoscopy services :

Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) and Bronchoscope is minimally invasive but effective procedure used to diagnose lung cancer, infections & other diseases causing enlarged lymph nodes in the chest. Our department has done over 3000 bronchoscopies till date.

»Medical Thoracoscopy :

Medical Thoracoscopy/ pleuroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows access to pleural space using a combination of viewing & working instruments. It also allows for basic diagnostic (undiagnosed pleural fluid or pleural thickening) and therapeutic procedures (adhesiolysis or pleurodoesis) to be performed safely. We have done over 300 thoracoscopies.

»Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) :

Our department is also equipped with Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) which are specialized areas for monitoring & treating patients suffering from acute respiratory failure originally caused by respiratory disease and/or by acute exacerbation of chronic respiratory failure.
