January 16th, 2016 PTA open house of 2015 batch was held. Dr. John Francis was nominated as a parent member (2015 batch) to the PTA executive committee. Results of the 1st internal examination were discussed.
January 18th to 23rd, 2016 Amala Medical College took part in the exhibition conducted by Christ College, Irinjalakuda to celebrate its 60th Anniversary. Medical stall provided by us had posters, cadaver and specimens from Anatomy and Community Medicine departments.
Janury 21st, 2016 Kerala Orthopaedic Association Conference (KOACON) 2016 - Spine Workshop was held in Amala. Ortho CME on 22.01.2016 and Ortho State Conference on 23.01.2016 were held at Hotel Lulu. Prof. Gerdregal, HOD, Ortho & Trauma, Munich University was the Chief Guest.
January, 2016 Indian Academy of Paediatrics honoured Dr. V. K. Parvathy, Prof. and HOD of Paediatrics by awarding fellowship at the National conference held at Hyderabad.
January 30th, 2016 Amala Hospital Day was celebrated. Programme started at 3PM after lunch given by management for the entire staff and students.
January 31st, 2016 "Tune in" - A CME on Paediatric hearing was organized by the Dept. of ENT under the aegis of Association of Oto-rhino-laryngology of India, Thrissur Chapter. State Deafness Control program was launched on that occasion. In the state level quiz, Jiya Merin Johny and Divya Jose of 2012 batch won the first prize. Govt. Medical College, Thrissur came 2nd and Govt. Medical College, TVM came third.
February 1st, 2016 21 students of 2012 batch who scored more than 75% in Pharmacology in the 2nd MBBS exam were felicitated by the Department of Pharmacology.
February 5th, 2016 RNTCP Institutional Core committee meeting was held. Statistical data for the last quarter and future plans were discussed.
February 6th, 2016 Cancer Survivors meet was organised by Oncology and Social work departments in connection with World Cancer Day. Mr. Innocent (MP and cine artist) was the Chief Guest.
February, 2016 Letter of Permission for increase of MD General Medicine seats from 2 to 4 and MD Psychiatry from 1 to 2 seats and to start MD Radiotherapy with 1 seat for the year 2016-17 was received.
February 13th-14th, 2016 Congratulations to Dr. Abhilash Somasundaran, final year PG student in Medicine who won 1st prize for his paper presentation at 40th Annual Conference of API, Kerala Chapter. Dr. Harikrishnan, final year PG student won the second prize.
February 17th, 2016 Dept. of Medical Social Work, AIMS, organised 'Almoners 2016', National Conference on Professional Social work. Honourable Justice K. Narayana Kurup, Chairman, Police Complaints Authority, Kerala, was the chief guest.
February 21st, 2016 Workshop on Basic Orthopaedic Pathology was organised by the Dept. of Orthopaedics and Pathology.
February, 2016 6 out of 7 students who appeared for Final MBBS part II examination of Calicut University passed the examination.
February, 2016 Congratulations to Dr. Anie M Thomas and Dr. Pooja Pradeep, final year PG students (MS ENT) who successfully cleared MRCS examination at Dublin.
April 26-28, 2016 Hostel Day celebrations were held on 26th, 27th and 28th April 2016. The programme consisted of Group Fun Competition, Sports and Games and various Entertainment items.
April 28, 2016 Free wig distribution to cancer patients was held. Mr. V. Ratheesan IAS, District Collector of Thrissur was the Chief Guest.
April 29-30, 2016 Double Dribble 2016 - Fr. Jose Sales Memorial Intermedical Basket Ball tournament was held. 15 teams participated. Amala Institute of Medical Sciences Boys' team won the trophy. In the Girls' finals, CSI Karakkonam Medical College came first.
May 14, 2016 Basic approach to diagnosis – CME in Pathology was organised by the Dept. of Pathology. The CME concluded with a quiz for the delegates.
May 20-21, 2016 ‘APNOEA – 16’ Interbatch Arts festival was organised by students’ council on 20th and 21st May 2016. Sri.Mohan Sithara, Music Director was the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony and Sri.Sooraj Santhosh, singer for the closing ceremony.
May 28, 2016 Palliative care Awareness Programme for 2009 supplementary and 2010 Regular and Supplementary batch interns was conducted on 28.05.2016.
May 28-29, 2016 Two days BLS, ACLS programme doctors, PGs and interns was organised by Dr.Paul O.Raphael, Course Director in Conference Hall, Sacred Heart Block.
May 31, 2016 Inaugural function and orientation programme for 40 PG students of 2016 batch were conducted on 31.05.2016. Sessions for detailing the rules and regulations pertaining to PG course and hostels were conducted on the same day at 2.45 pm.
May 31, 2016 World No Tobacco Day 2016 was observed jointly by Community Medicine Dept. and Amala Nursing School on 31.05.2016 in Peringavu Anganavadi, Thrissur.
June 10, 2016 Clean Amala Nagar Campaign was launched on 10.06.2016 as pollution control programme to keep the environment clean and free from disease burden.
June 14, 2016 World Blood Donor Day 2016 was celebrated on 14.06.2016. Sri.Murali Perunelly MLA Manaloor was the chief guest.
June, 2016 Dr.Thrudeep Sagar DM Cardiology final year student won the first prize for the best case presentation at the Kerala chapter of Cardiology Society.
June 18, 2016 Value Added Education Programme for 2011, 12, 13 and 14 batches of MBBS students was held on 18.06.2016. Dr.U.K.Syam, Head of Neurology, ESIC superspeciality Hospital, Kollam gave a talk on “Palliative Care – A Divine Service”.
June 20, 2016 Dept. of Community Medicine conducted a sensitization programme on Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission (PPTCT) of HIV infection in association with Solidarity and Action Against The HIV Infection in India SAATHII on 20.06.2016.
June 28, 2016 Basic Suturing, Knot tying and Operation theatre Management programme was conducted with the technical help of Ethicon on 28th June 2016 in the practical lab of Dept. of Forensic Medicine. Dr.Asok Ninan Oommen was the Chief faculty.
June , 2016 In the III MBBS Part I examination February 2016, 77 students of 2012 Regular batch appeared and passed. There was one distinction and 40 first classes. Amala Medical College came 1st among all the medical colleges under KUHS.
July 1, 2016 Doctors’ Day – 2016 was celebrated on 01.07.2016. Dr.E.Divakaran, Director, Institute of Palliative Care, Thrissur was the chief guest of the function, gave the Doctors Message. Dr. Shijin John Aloor, Amala student of 2005 batch and Asst. Surgeon, Nedumkandam Taluk Hospital, Idukki was honoured on that occasion.
July 1, 2016 Anatomy Dept. has arranged refresher classes for 1st year PG students for 2 months from 1st July 2016 and is planning to conduct vertical integration classes for these students along with 1st year MBBS students to make them aware of the clinical and preclinical connotations of different cases.
July 1, 2016 Thrissur Branch of IMA presented Doctors’ Day Award 2016 to Dr.V.K.Parvathy, HOD Paediatrics for her contributions to the development of Pediatrics.
July 10, 2016 CME programme on heart failure was conducted at Casino Hotel on 10th July 2016 by the Dept. of Cardiology. Topics for providing relevant update with the goal of improving care of patients with heart failure were presented by the speakers.
July 13, 2016 Thesis Protocol workshop was conducted by the Dept. of Community Medicine for the 1st year PG students.
July 16, 2016 Blood Donation programme was arranged in Amala Chapel in connection with Mount Carmel Feast.
July 19, 2016 CME on Recent developments and interpretations in Laboratory investigation was conducted by the Dept. of Biochemistry.
July 22, 2016 The newly air conditioned main examination hall was opened by Dr.K.G.Vithlani, Professor of Pulmonology, Pandit Deenadayal Medical college, Gujarat and blessed by the Director Rev.Fr.Francis Kurissery on 22.07.2016.
July 31, 2016 Nanma-2016 Medical camp and seminar were organised by the Dept. of Community Medicine at Chittilappilly Centre Auditorium on 31.07.2016 with the help of 2013 MBBS batch. Non-communicable and life style disorders were discussed. The concluding function at 4 pm was inaugurated by Sri.Anil Akkara, MLA of Wadakkanchery. Sri.V.O. Chummar Panchayat President of Adat presided over the fuction. Poor patients were given monetary help and rice packets.

August 1, 2016 CRRI orientation programme for 2011 batch of MBBS students was conducted on 01.08.2016. Internship started on the same day.
August 6, 2016 Graduation ceremony of 2010 MBBS batch was organised on 06.08.2016. Dr.V.Mohan, Chief Diabetologist and Director of Madras Diabetes Research Foundation was the Chief Guest. Rev.Fr.Walter Thelappilly CMI, Provincial and Trustee-in-Chief presided over the function. Dr.Shilpa K.V., the best outgoing student was presented with Certificate of Academic Excellence.
August 6, 2016 In the PG examination conducted in June/July 2016, 35 candidates passed the examination.
August 2016 In DM Cardiology two candidates appeared and passed PG superspeciality examination.
September 12, 2016 Onam celebrations were held on 10th September by students of Amala Medical College. The Amala Family (Doctors and the staff) conducted Onam celebrations on 12th September 2016.
September 3-7, 2016 Dr.Rennis Davis, Professor & Head, Dept. of Pulmonary Medicine presented two posters at European Respiratory Society Annual meeting held at London from September 3rd to 7th, 2016.
September 20, 2016 Anti Ragging Committee meeting was held at 3 pm.
September 21, 2016 PTA open house for 2012 regular batch was held.
September 2016 Ms.Archana Lakshmanan of 2012 batch won award from Association of Otolaryngologists of India for securing highest marks among the students of medical colleges in Thrissur District in Final MBBS Part I ENT exam for 2015-16 conducted by KUHS.
September 23, 2016 Dr.C.Jayaprakash, Professor and HOD of Orthopaedics and Dr.Kishore.P, Associate Professor attended ‘GOSICON 2016’ (Geriatric Orthopaedics Society : Conference) at Bhubaneswar on 23rd September 2016. Paper presented by Dr.Kishore on hip fractures in the elderly won the Best Paper Award.
September 26, 2016 Value Added Education programme was conducted for 2012, 13 and 14 batches of MBBS students on 26th September 2016. Mr.P.O.George, Chairman Child Welfare Committee of Thrissur District gave a talk on “Respect the patients and their rights”.
September 28, 2016 World Heart Day was celebrated on 28.09.2016. Mrs.Nishanthini IPS, District Police Chief (Rural) was the Chief Guest.
September 29, 2016 MBBS course of 2016 batch started.
September 2016 Cycle Rally by Chamber of Commerce, Guruvayur and Awareness classes for students by Dr.S.Abdul Khadar, HOD of Cardiology were conducted at Mercy College, Guruvayur. Echo test was also conducted for them. First catheter closure of PDA in Thrissur District was done by Dr.Rajesh.G & team in Amala in September 2016. ‘Reminiscence’ a book containing the activities of the Dept. of Cardiology for the last 4 years was published at the time of MCI assessment.
September 2016 Congratulations to the Dept. of OBG especially to Dr.P.S.Remani and Dr.Tony Nelson for management of case of Placenta Increta through a novel approach using endovascular aortic balloon inflation. Mother and child were saved and they are doing well now.
September 2016 Congratulations to Dr.Rajkumar and Dr.Babu M.R. of Surgery Dept. for successfully bringing back to life 18 year old boy who sustained severe injuries in traffic accident, by performing 5 operations on him over a period of 9 months.
October 2, 2016 Fifth Amala Dermatology Oration along with a CME – ‘Advances 2016’ was organised by the Dept. of Dermatology. Dr.V.P.Kuriyipe, former National President IADVL addressed the gathering presided over by Director Rev.Fr.Francis Kurissery. Dr.A.K.Bajaj, Prof. of Dermatology, MLN Medical College, Allahabad delivered the oration.
October 2, 2016 Congratulations to Ms.Archana Lakshmanan and Ms.Sheethal Baby Scaria of 2012 batch for securing third prize in the final of Kerala Neuro Quiz 2016 organised by Kerala Association of Neurologists held at Jubilee Mission Medical College, Thrissur.
October 7, 2016 Dr.M.R.Chandran, Principal, Dr.V.K.Parvathi, Prof. and HOD of Paediatrics and Dr.Mini Kariappa, Prof. and HOD of Anatomy attended KUHS oration on Childhood Obesity delivered by Dr.N.K.Arora, Executive Director, INCLEN Trust International, New Delhi.
October 2016 PG Medical Education Committee of MCI has recommended to Health & Family Welfare Dept., Govt. of India to recognize out DCH qualification for 2 seats granted by KUHS.
October 7, 2016 Congratulations to Dr.Remya Ramachandran, PG student in Community Medicine on winning 1st prize in Poster presentation at the KUHS National Conference on PG Medical Research THRICON – 16 conducted on 6th and 7th October 2016 at Govt. Medical College, Thrissur.
October 16, 2016 “RAinS-2016”, CME on Recent Advances in Surgery was organised by the Depts. of General Surgery and Surgical Oncology
October 19, 2016 Hospital Infection Control Conference – ‘HICCON-2016’ was held in the Auditorium. Dr.Suhita.K, District Medical Officer, Thrissur inaugurated the programme. Awareness class was taken by Dr.K.V.Suseela, Prof. and HOD of Microbiology and Dr.Jenyz M.Mundodan, Asst. Prof. of Community Medicine conducted quiz competition for MBBS students.
October 2016 Valedictory function of HIC week celebrations was conducted as part of Amala infection Prevention week. Dr.Nalinakshan, Pro Vice Chancellor of KUHS was the chief guest.
October 22, 2016 Value Added Education programme for 2016 batch MBBS students was conducted.Dr.Betsy Thomas, Prof. of OBG gave a talk on Life Issues in Health Profession.
October 30, 2016 Dr.Reshma Venugopal, PG student in MD General Medicine won 2nd prize in paper presentation titled “A Series of Ten Cases of Severe Diarrhea” in Kerala Chapter of third quarterly meeting held on 30.10.2016 at Perinthalmanna.
October 2016 A 16 year old girl got back her normal movement of legs through a rare surgery in Kerala – Thoracic Vertebra Enblock Corpectomy done in 4 stages by Spine Surgeon Dr.Scott Chacko John and team.
November 2016 PG Medical Education Committee of MCI has recommended to Health & Family Welfare Dept., Govt. of India to recognize our DCH qualification for 2 seats, MD Biochemistry for 2 seats and MS ENT for 2 seats granted by KUHS.
November 17, 2016 In the first MBBS exam for 2015 batch, 88 out of 100 students passed the examination, pass percentage being 88. There were 14 distinctions and 58 first classes. Ajay R was university topper in the examination. 3rd semester classes for 2015 regular batch started with an orientation programme.
November 13, 2016 Amala Neurosurgery CME was conducted, Consultants and PG students attended the programme.
November 18, 2016 ‘CLICK’ – College Magazine 2015-16 was released. Sri.Ranjith Sankar, Film Director inaugurated the event.
November 26, 2016 Dept. of Paediatrics of Amala Medical College has won the Best Paediatric Department among self Financing Medical Colleges in Kerala Award at the 45th Kerala State Annual Conference held at IMA House, Cochin.
November 28, 2016 10 days inter batch Atheletics & sports event concluded.
December 9, 2016 EPOCH-2016 College students’ Council was inaugurated on 9th December, 2016 by play back singer Sri.Arun Alat. Cognizance – Students Councils’ year long cancer Awareness Programme was also launched on this occasion.
December 17, 2016 Value Added Education Programme for 2016 batch MBBS students were conducted on 22nd October, 3rd December and 17th December, 2016. Dr.Betsy Thomas, Prof. of OBG gave a talk on “Life issues in health profession”, Dr.Agnessamma Jacob, Prof of Pathology on “Patient as a human being” and Dr.Asha Dharwadkar, Prof. of Physiology on “Responsibilities of a medical student to community”.
December 19, 2016 PTA Executive Committee met on 19.12.2016. Mr.Mathew Paul Ooken was elected as President in place of Adv.Mathew Joseph who completed his term.
December 14, 2016 Amala Medical College men’s team won the KUHS C-Zone basket ball tournament at Nehru College, Pampadi. Our men’s and women’s team won the chess championship conducted at P K Das Institute of Medical Sciences, Ottappalam.
December 22, 2016 ‘ICICLES – 2016’ – Christmas Celebration organised by the Students Council.
December 26, 2016 Congrats to Dr.S.Abdul Khadar, Professor & HOD of Cardiology for winning Kairaly People TV Doctors’ Award for 2016 in appreciation of effort taken by Rheumatic Heart club in reducing the burden of Rheumatic Heart Disease and eliminating Rheumatic fever. Dr.Abdul Khadar is one of the founders of Rheumatic Heart club entering into 20th year of its existence. The Award was presented at IMA Hall Ernakulam by Bharath Mammootty in the presence of Health Minister Smt.K.K.Shylaja Teacher.
December 2016 Congrats to Dr.John George, Asso. Professor of Community Medicine for winning Thusharam Best Doctor Award from Socio Cultural Association of Trivandrum. Music composer Sri.Chunakkara Ramankutty presented the award.
