January 11th Internship for 2012 supplementary batch started. Orientation programme for them was conducted from 8th to 10th January, 2018.
January 19th Institutional Ethics Committee of Amala was re-registered by Drugs Controller General of India. The re-registration is valid till 25.09.2020 and this would enable the Institute to conduct clinical trials.
January 20-21st 2nd year PG student of MD Respiratory Medicine, Dr.Azhakath Suresh Abhay received 1st prize in interactive case discussion in ICS Talent Search 2018 organized by Indian Chest Society South Zone, A.J. Institute of Medical Sciences, Mangalore.
January All the 4 candidates who appeared for the PG Degree supplementary examination (MS General Surgery, MD Respiratory Medicine and MD Radiodiagnosis) of KUHS held in November 2017 passed the examination.
January Dr.Kavitarati Dharwadkar won the best oral presentation - Third place in the 25th Annual Conference of Association of Medical Biochemists of India at Mysuru.
February 3rd Cancer Survivor’s meet was organized as part of World Cancer Day. Mrs. Ann Mariya, Cine Artist was the chief guest for the function.
February 9th World Day of the sick was observed. Blood Donation camp was also held on the same day. Mr.Santhosh.B, Circle Inspector of Police inaugurated the programme.
February 14th Single window approach in the Adult Immunization services under the supervision of Dept. of Community Medicine became functional in the ARCH clinic.
February 18th Dept. of Orthopaedics and Pathology organized 4th workshop on Basic Orthopaedic Pathology.
February In connection with World Cancer Day 4th February, Amala Medical College organized a camp on 28.01.2018 in Chettuva, Chavakkad where Dr.Paul Gopu of Oncology Dept. gave a talk on cancer and Dr.P.K.Mohanan of General Surgery Dept. screened patients for signs of cancer. Dr.Mohamed Hasin K.T., PG student in Community Medicine gave talk on cancer at Choolissery, Govt. SMLP School on 2nd February, at Varadiyam on 7th February, at BVP School Adat on 9th February and at Parpookkara Church Hall, Thrissur on 18th February, 2018.
March 4th CME on “Recent Updates in the Management of Lung Cancer” was organized by Dept. of Respiratory Medicine and Academy of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr.V.P.Gangadharan, Medical Oncologist, Lakeshore Hospital, Ernakulam, inaugurated the event.
March 7th World Kidney Day programmes organized by the Nephrology and Urology Departments was inaugurated by Dr.Bindu Thomas, Deputy DMO, Thrissur.
March 17th & 23rd PTA open house for 2013 & 2014 (Addl.) MBBS batches were conducted. Measures to improve their attendance percentage and internal assessment marks were discussed.
March Dr.S.Abdul Khadar, HOD Cardiology has been elected the National Convener of Cardiological Society of India Rheumatic Heart club.
March 24th Video documentary on fight against kidney diseases conceived by Dr.Jayant Thomas Mathew, Professor and HOD of Nephrology was released.
March 27th Dr.Harikrishnan K.B, HOD of Urology was honoured for winning Sahitya Academy Award and for his novel “Nile Vazhikal”. Rev.Fr.Walter Thelappilly CMI, Provincial was the chief guest.
April 1st Internship started for 2013 batch MBBS students. Inaugural session was organised on 02.04.2018.
April 15th A function was organised in honour of the Director, Rev.Fr.Francis Kurissery CMI, who completed 50 years of Religious Life in CMI congregation. The function was inaugurated by Rev.Dr.Fr.Paul Achandy, Prior General and was presided over by Rev.Fr.Walter Thelappilly, Provincial. Mr.Anil Akkara MLA and Amala family members offered felicitations.
April 16th 4 out of 5 students who appeared for 1st MBBS supplementary exam February 2018 passed the examination. Orientation programme was held for them.
April 16th 86 out of 89 students of 2014 MBBS batch passed Final MBBS Part I examination conducted in February 2018 with pass percentage of 96.6. There were 3 distinctions and 40 first classes.
April 27th As part of the World Immunization week observation from 24th to 30th April, Dept. of Community Medicine conducted a symposium on Adult Immunization at Hotel Ashoka Inn, Thrissur.
April 28th “Padma Bhushan Fr.Gabriel Chiramel CMI Foundation” was inaugurated at Devamatha Public School, Thrissur by Justice Kurian Joseph, Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. He delivered Father Gabriel Oration. Mar Andrews Thazath Archbishop of Thrissur presided over the function.
April 29th Dept. of Paediatrics organised a CME – “Interact with Experts”.
May 04th Workshop on Undergraduate Medical Research organized by Amala Research club and Dept. of Community Medicine was conducted. MBBS students of 2015 batch actively participated in the programme.
May 04th In the second MBBS exam February 2018, 85 out of 87 students passed, pass percentage being 97.7. There were 11 distinctions, 58 first classes. Ajay R with 84% marks was the topper.
May 12th Fr.Sales Memorial Intermedical Basket Ball tournament was conducted.
May 19th World Asthma Day programme was organized by the Dept. of Respiratory Medicine in association with IMA Amala Nagar Branch and Association of Pulmonologists of Thrissur.
May 19th Fine Arts day ‘Tarang – 2018’ of Students’ Council 2017-18 was conducted. Dr.Harishankar, Musician was the chief guest. College Magazine “MOSAIC” was also released on the occasion.
May 21st - 22nd Commencement of PG courses – 2018 was marked by Inaugural ceremony and orientation programme the next day. 39 PG students joined the course.
May 31st “NO TOBACCO DAY” was organized by the Dept. of Pulmonary Medicine in Amala Portico. Awareness programme for the public was conducted on the occasion with the declaration of Tobacco free Amala campus. Mr.Thomas Chakkiar, chief guest interacted with the public assembled there.
June 8th PTA meeting for 2016 regular MBBS batch was conducted. The academic performance of students was discussed.
June 14th Blood donation camp was organized in connection with World Blood Donor Day. Sri.C.J.Anto, Kaiparamb Panchayath president was the chief guest. Mr.Blessen K.F, organ donor and blood donor was honoured on the occasion.
June 18th Monsoon special evening OP was inaugurated by Sri.T.R.Jayachandran, President Adat Panchayath. OP from 4 pm to 8 pm and will be managed by the depts. of General Medicine and Paediatrics.
June 25th On World Vitiligo Day, an awareness programme was arranged by the Dept. of Dermatology.
June 25th 2016 batch of MBBS students conducted a send off programme “ONE LAST TIME” in honour of 2012 batch interns.
June 28th to 29th 2 days workshop on Research Methodology for 1st year PG students was conducted by the Dept. of Community Medicine.
July 2nd 2012 batch organized their convocation cultural programme “TAKE OFF”
July 3rd Graduation ceremony of 2012 MBBS batch was held. Padma Shri Dr.M.R.Rajagopal, Founder and Chairman of Pallium India, the Chief Guest delivered Graduation address. Rev.Fr.Davis Panakkal CMI presided over the function, Dr.M.R.Chandran, Principal delivered the presentation address and released the slam book. Dr.M.R.Rajagopal awarded the Degrees, administered the Hippocratic Oath to the graduands and presented awards to toppers. Fr.Gabriel Chiramel Award was presented to Dr.M.R.Rajagopal by Director Rev.Fr.Francis Kurissery. Valedictorian address was delivered by Dr.Archana Lakshmanan, the Best Outgoing student.
July 10th to 13th Revised Basic Course workshop in Medical Education Technologies and AETCOM sensitization programme for teachers was held.
July 12th Amala Social work department in collaboration with Thrissur Gynaecological Society conducted an awareness programme on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) and prevention of female foeticides.
July 27 out of 30 candidates of MD / MS examination and all 3 candidates of Diploma passed the KUHS examination May/June 2018. Pass percentage being 91%.
July 20th Microbiology department conducted an awareness programme for PG students of clinical departments on sample collection and interpretation of reports. 47 students attended the program.
July 24th Dept. of Community Medicine arranged a talk by Dr.R.Srikanth, Surveillance Medical Officer and WHO Consultant on Vaccine preventable diseases. Staff and PG students of Community Medicine and Paediatrics attended the program.
July KUHS granted Consent of Affiliation to apply for DM Pulmonary Medicine for academic session 2019-2020.
August 2nd Tumour Board meeting was held. Regular meetings of the Tumour Board will be held once a week on every Saturdays to facilitate and augment the quality of treatment given to Oncology patients coming to our hospital.
August KUHS has granted Consent of Affiliation to apply for DM Pulmonary Medicine for academic session 2019-2020 and for increase of seats of MD Radiodiagnosis and MD Dermatology from academic session 2020-21.
August 3rd Breast feeding week program was inaugurated by Dr.Bindu Thomas, Dist. Medical Officer, Thrissur.
August 15th Lung Cancer Screening camp was conducted at St.George School, Kaiparambu by Department of Pulmonology and Community Medicine as a project work for 2015 batch of MBBS students.
August 20th A meeting was held to discuss the emergency medical care for victims of flood related calamities. Relief work will be carried out in consultation with DMO, Thrissur. PGs from the non-clinical departments and from the departments of Psychiatry and Dermatology were deputed for relief work. Separate OP for flood victims has been opened.
August 31st Inaugural programme for 2018 batch of MBBS students was conducted. Classes commenced on 1st September, 2018.
August 3 students appeared and passed the DM Cardiology exam of KUHS conducted in July 2018.
August Dr.Surya Ravindran, PG student in Dermatology won Best Paper Award at the National Conference of Indian Academy of Dermatology, Venerology and Leprosy at Kanyakumari. She is also recipient of Indian Academy of Dermatology scholarship.
September 6th Antiragging awareness programme was conducted for MBBS students of 2015 and 2016 batches.
September 8th to 9th Dr.Ramya T.Pillai and Dr.Anjali Ravi Kumar, PG students of MS General Surgery (2016 batch) won first prize in quiz competition held at the Annual CME of Association of Surgeons of India, Kerala Chapter at Believer’s Church Medical College, Thiruavalla.
September 9th PG students of MD General Medicine Dr.Reshma Venugopal and Dr.Ahammed Ashar (2016 batch) won first prize in State Level Quiz conducted by Indian Rheumatology Association at Kochi. Dr.Steffin Mathai Kattoor and Dr.Cyrin Annie Cyriac of 2017 batch won third prize.
September 16th Amala Medical College Hospital has been granted NABH accreditation w.e.f 16th September, 2018, valid for 3 years.
September 21sth Dept. of Psychiatry arranged an awareness program on Alzheimers Disease on World Alzheimer’s Day.
September 28th In connection with National Blood Donation Day – 2018, Blood Donation camp was organized. Mr.Soly Thomas, Joint Secretary of Chamber of Commerce inaugurated the event.
September 29th Prof.C.Raveendranath, Minister for Education inaugurated World Heart Day 2018 function and Punarjani Amala Campaign organized by Dept. of Cardiology. Sri.T.R.Jayachandran, Adat Panchayat President offered felicitation. In connection with World Heart Day, ‘Amala Punarjani Scheme’ was declared. This is meant to spread Heart Health Literacy in Adat Panchayath.
September 29th Arunima M.Nair, Alisha Johnson, Anjali Harikumar, Ankith K and Antony Jason Augustine, 2015 batch MBBS students bagged First prize in Whatsapp Group Quiz (64 colleges participated). Alisha Johnson won Best Performer and First prize in Face Book Quiz competition. Amala Team won fourth prize in Live quiz competition (60 teams participated)and also maximum prizes at MEDZANTICA ′18 organized by Dept. of Community Medicine, Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences, Pondicherry.
September 30th Expert Opinion on Practical Issues in Clinical Gastroenterology (EPIC Gastro 2018) was conducted by the Dept. of Gastroenterology.
October 7th Suhana Abdul Kalam and Annmary Thomas of 2014 MBBS batch participated in the 9th Kerala Neurology Quiz conducted at JMMC by the Kerala Association of Neurologists. They reached 6th position and won cash prizes.
October 12th PTA meeting for 2015 MBBS regular batch was held.
October 14th Dept. of Obstetrics & Gynaecology conducted CME on 3rd Trimester Bleeding.
October 14th Dept. of Psychiatry conducted CME on Liaison Psychiatry.
October 14th Cyrin Annie Cyriac, 2nd year PG student in General Medicine won 2nd prize in poster presentation during Internal Medicine CME at Pushpagiri Institute of Medical Sciences.
October 16th In connection with World Obesity Day 2018 on 11th oct. 2018, Community Medicine Dept. organized a ZUMBA dance program for MBBS students in the Auditorium.
October Dr.Betsy Thomas, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has been conferred Fellowship of Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (FRCOG), London.
October 17th PTA meeting for 2014 MBBS regular batch was held.
October 23rd “Punarjani” training programme envisaged by the Departments of Community Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Anaesthesiology was inaugurated by Dr.K.Unnikrishnan, RCH Officer, Thrissur. Sri.T.R.Jayachandran, President, Adat Panchayat offered felicitations. CPR training session was also conducted.
October 17 students (14 from 2015 batch and 3 students from 2014 batch) appeared from II MBBS supplementary examination July 2018 and all of them passed the exam.
October 8 out of 10 students of 2014 batch passed the III MBBS Part I exam August 2018.
October 25th Dr.Jerry Rachel John, Ist year PG student in Community Medicine won PG Best paper Award and Maria Mathew, 2015 Batch MBBS student won UG Best Paper Award at the third KUHS National Conference THRICON-18 organized by the Community Medicine, Dept. of Govt. Medical College, Thrissur .
October 26th & 27th CONCORDIUM ′18 – South Indian UG workshop and conference aiming at providing a platform for undergraduate medical students to present paper and poster presentations, identifying the best quiz talents of South India via AMALACOMQUIZ and training in professional skills was organized. It was organized by Amala Students’ Council 2018 in association with Amala Research club. Students from medical colleges in Kerala and other South Indian states participated. Dr.V.V.Unnikrishnan, Dean (Academic) KUHS inaugurated the event. 300 students from 30 medical colleges participated in the program.
October 28th RAinS 2018, CME programme on Recent Advances in Surgery was conducted by the Dept. of General Surgery.
October 29th World Psoriasis Day programme organized by the Dept. of Dermatology was held. Smt. K.P.A.C. Lalitha, film actress was the Chief Guest.
October 78 out of 100 students of 2017 batch passed first MBBS exam held in August 2018. There were 7 distinctions and 38 first classes.
November 41 out of 44 students passed III MBBS part II supplementary examination- August 2018.
November 8th to 10th Orientation programme for 2017 regular batch MBBS students was held.
November 12th to 17th Amala infection prevention and control week programme with the theme “Protecting Patients Everywhere” was conducted from 12th to 17th November, 2018.It was inaugurated by Dr. Preethy Nair, HOD Microbiology, Govt. Medical College, Thrissur. A conference on “ Infection Prevention- Protecting Patients Everywhere” was organised on 16-11-2018 ,in connection with Amala Infection prevention and control week. This was inaugurated by the DMO of Thrissur Dr. Reena K J.
November 13th to 15th Orientation programme for 2013 supplementary batch interns was conducted. Their internship commenced on 16th November.
November 16th to 18th Dr.Surya Ravindran, Final year PG student in MD Dermatology has secured first prize for Best Research paper award (a comparative analysis of wrinkling in Dermatological Disease)at 22nd Dermazone South conference held at Hyderabad.
November 23rd to 25th Dr. Edwin Ros Sartho, PG student in Paediatrics presented paper and won third prize in PG category in the 47th state conference ‘Pedicon Kerala 2018’ at Manjeri.
November 24th Dr. Anil Vallathole, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Malayalam University released a book “Non Pharmacological Interventions in the Management of Atopic Dermatitis” authored by Dr. S Criton, Prof. and HOD of Dermatology and Dr. Geethu Gangadharan.
November 24th Value Education Programme was conducted for 2018 batch. Dr. Sojan George, Asst. Prof. Of Gastroenterology gave a talk on “Responsibilities of a Medical Student to Community”.
December 10th Interbatch athletic meet was held.
December 13th Value Education Programme was conducted for 2014 supple., 2015 reg.& supple., 2016 reg. & supple. and 2017 regular batches. Dr.Betsy Thomas, Prof. of OBG gave a talk on “the Abundance of Health and Healing Hands of Death”.
December 16th ARC 2018 (Amala Radiology Conference), annual CME programme was organized by Department of Radiodiagnosis. The scientific programme featured updates on Fetal Radiology with live workshops.
December 16th CME on Pregnancy-related medical disorders was organized by Dept. of Medicine.
December 21st College Students’ Council 2018-19 organized Christmas celebrations “CHRIZEMBER – Let it snow”.
December 22nd One Amala Christmas celebration was organized.
