Department is well equipped and efficiently functioning with four units. Allied specialties of Dermatology, Radiology, and Psychiatry and superspecialties of Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Nephrology, Endocrinology and Pulmonology are also.

OP Timing

All working days - 8 AM to 4 PM.


Clinical posting for MBBS students for 2 months each in 3rd and 8th semesters and for one month in 6th semester along with theory classes in the afternoons. Seminars, symposia, clinical club with discussion on interesting cases, general clinics, clinic pathological conference on interesting cases once a week, general clinics once a week, clinicopathological conference on interesting clinical problems in combination with Pathology department, vertical integration classes on selected topics involving all departments from preclinical and clinical side etc., are regularly conducted.


» Free OP conducted from 8 AM to 11:30 AM, everyday except on Sundays and public holidays.
» Counselling service of 24 hrs.
» MICU 7 for seriously ill patients with cardiac monitors, pulse oximeters, mechanical ventilators, overhead O2 facilities, defibrillators etc., with a capacity of 17 beds and 1:1 measuring case.
» Semi-ICU (8 beds for comparatively less sick, but patients with 1:2 nursing service.
» CCU - full-fledged cardiac care is given for 24 hour including coronary angiogram, interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery facilities with excellently trained nursing staff and cardiologist on call duty.
» General ward 120 beds (60 male & 60 Female).
» Nephrology unit with dialysis facilities.
» Bronchoscopy and OGD scopy are regularly undertaken on fixed days per week.

HOD and Professor of Medicine, Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thrissur.

Graduate of Trivandrum Medical college with post graduation from PGI Chandigarh. Joined government medical college service in 1975 and worked as Professor of Medicine at Calicut and later retired as Professor and HOD of Dept of Medicine Thrissur. Acquired training in Rhuematology from UK & is a Fellow of Royal College of Physicians at Edinburgh, A Member of Royal College of Physicians of Ireland & UK. Currently working as Professor of Medicine over here.

Dr. G George

Graduated from Medical College Kottayam (Kerala University in 1977). Did PG Diploma in Tropical Medicine at school of Tropical Medicine, Culcutta in 1981. Did MD General Medicine at Govt Medical College Kottayam and passed in 1985. Joined Medical Education Service of Kerala in 1985. and worked as Tutor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor in various Govt Medical Colleges of Kerala till 2007. Joined AIMS Thrissur as Professor; 2007 and continuing on such till now. Undergraduate PG examiner in various universities of Kerala and KUHS.

Dr. Narayanan Potti S

Graduated from Trivandrum Medical College in 1983 and took MD in General Medicine from the same institution in 1989. Joined Govt service as Lecture in Medicine in 1990 at Govt Medical College Thrissur and subsequently worked in Trivandrum, Thrissur & Calicut Medical Colleges till 2005. Joined Amala Institute of Medical Sciences in 2005 July and continuing to serve as Professor of Medicine. Area of special interest is Hematology- organized a Hematology Clinic while working in Govt Medical College Thrissur and continuing to run the same in Amala. Postgraduate examiner in Dr.MGR University, Chennai.

Dr. Sobha Subramanian

Graduated from T D Medical College Allepey in 1986 with university 1st rank & took Post Graduation in General Medicine from Govt Medical College , Kottayam in 1989. Passed MRCP (UK) in 1994, trained in Respiratory Medicine from various units in UK. Joined Amala Cancer Hospital, Thrissur 1997. as consultant Pulmonologist worked till 2003, then joined asd Assistant Professor in Amala Institute of Medical Sciences in department of Medicine; promoted as Professor on 1st January 2013. Special Interest is respiratory medicine. Undergraduate examiner in University of Kerala, MG University, Amritha Viswapeedom, MGR University, Tamil Nadu. Life Member of IMA, API, APCCM & ISCCM.

Dr. Geeta Panicker

Completed her MBBS from BCDEA Medical college Bijapur in 1996 and completed MD Medicine from JSS Medical COllege Mysore in 2004. Joined in Amala Institute of Medical Sciences on 1-1-2005 and worked as Senior Resident, Assistant Professor. Presently continuing as Associate Professor in Department of Medicine.

Dr. Augustine Athapilly

After acquiring his primary Medical qualification (MBBS) from St. Johns Medical COllege (Banglore University) in 1977 and Post Graduate qualification from AIIMS in 1981 New Delhi in the first chance, he got his membership in Royal College of Physicians from UK in 1998. During his academic carrier he won many Laurels and prizes which include Paul Abrao prize for Forensic Medicine in 1974 and Cardinal Gracial prize for ethics in 1974. He underwent Post Doctoral training.

Dr. Alvin Treasa George

Graduate of Govt. Medical College, Thrissur with Post Graduation MD General Medicine from Govt. Medical College, Calicut in 2007. Took DNB in General Medicine in 2008. Worked as senior resident in General Medicine at Govt. Medical College, Thrissur and joined in Amala Institute of Medical sciences in 2009 as Assistant Professor of Medicine and currently working as Associate Professor of Medicine over here.
