January 3rd to 5th A PTA-Open house for 2016 MBBS supplementary batch was held.
January 11th PTA-Open house for 2018 batch MBBS was held.
January 11th A meeting of the Executive Committee of the PTA was held.
January 12th Amala Institute of Medical Sciences has been awarded NABH Accreditation by the Quality Council of India. The official handing over of the certificate was done by Shri. Pinarayi Vijayan, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala at 11.30 am in Amala Auditorium. The achievement was celebrated with a Thanksgiving Holy Mass at 12 noon on Monday, 14th January, 2019 in the Hospital Chapel.
January 17th Dr.Binoj Varghese, Assoc. Professor, Dept. of Radiodiagnosis was awarded Dr.G.R.Jankhari Best Paper Award by Indian Journal of Radiology and Imaging at 72nd Annual Conference of IRIA at PGIMER, Chandigarh.
January 24th Amala Institute of Medical Sciences in association with RNTCP Institutional Core Committee conducted a RNTCP sensitization workshop on the topic ‘Newer advances in Diagnosis and Treatment of Tuberculosis under RNTCP’ at 1.30 pm in Seminar Hall of Sacred Heart Block. The resource person was Dr.Rakesh P.S., WHO Consultant – RNTCP.
January 29th A new Blood Bank ambulance has been purchased to enhance the service given by the Dept. of Transfusion Medicine.
February 1st Dr.Betsy Thomas was appointed as the Head of the Dept of OBG.
February 2nd Dept. of Community Medicine organized a one-day workshop on “Statistics in Practice”. Dr.Gijo Thomas, Biostatistician working with SAHMRI (South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute), Adelaide, was the guest faculty.
February 9th In connection with the Ruby Jubilee Celebrations of Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, a get-together of babies born in Amala Hospital during the past 40 years was held..
February 7- 11th Our Medicine PGs Dr.Lakshmi Menon, Dr.Ahammed Azhar, Dr.Reshma Venugopal won First Prize and Dr.Rekhin Nath won the Second prize at the 74th National conference of APICON 2019 held at Grand Hyatt Kochi.
February 10th 5th workshop on Basic Orthopaedic Pathology was organized by the Departments of Orthopaedics & Pathology. This was conducted as a Pathology workshop for PG students of Orthopaedics.
February 11th Amala Institute of Medical Sciences received recognition from MCI for MS Orthopaedics.
February “Surveillance” – an annual bulletin of Infectious Diseases Statistics – a publication of Dept. of Community Medicine was published in Jan 2019. The Dept. of Community Medicine has been involved in an ongoing collection, analysis and interpretation of data related to infectious diseases admitted in our hospital as part of IDSP.
March 12th Departmentof Ophthalmology jointly with Thrissur Academic Club of Ophthalmology conducted “Mega Glaucomela”- a glaucoma awareness day, as part of observing world glaucoma awareness week. Various programmes were organised on the day and the programme was inaugurated by the Director, Fr. Father Kurissery CMI. The Joint Director, Fr. Julius Arakkal and Associate Director, Fr. Deljo Puthoor offered felicitations. Dr. Merine Paul, President, Thrissur Academic Club of Ophthalmology presented a glaucoma awareness tool kit to Associate Director, Fr. Thomas Vazhakkala.
March 23rd Live Bronchoscopy training for PGs and Pulmonologist was organised by the Department of Pulmonary Medicine.
March 29-30th Orientation programme for 2017 Additional batch MBBS students was held. The official ceremony was held between 10.15 am and 11.15 am on 30-03-2019.
March 84 out of 87 students passed Final MBBs part I examination –January 2019.
March 84 out of 89 students passed Final MBBS part II examination – February 2019.
March 29-30th Double Dribble – 2019, Fr. Jose Sales Memorial annual Inter-college Basket Ball tournament was organised. The Government Medical College, Kottayam was the winners in Men’s section and the Government Medical College, Alappuzha was the winners in Women’s Section.
April 1-2nd Orientation program for 2014 MBBS interns was organized.
April 1st Dr. Bindu C.B was appointed as the Head of the Dept of Physiology.
April 6th Graduation Ceremony of 2013 MBBS batch was held. Shri. Justice Kurian Joseph, Hon’ble Judge (Retd.), The Supreme Court of India was the Chief Guest.
April 7th Dept. of Radiation Oncology organized a one day CME on “Management of Gynaecological Malignancies” at New conference Hall.
April 10th Dr.Betsy Thomas, Prof. & HOD of OBG took charge as the new Principal of Amala Medical College.
April 10th Dr. Anoj Kattukaran took charge as Head of the Dept of OBG.
April 13th Inauguration of ‘Janani-4’ Mother care, Amala care programme and distribution of SDM fund was held.
April 28th 'Mayilpeeli viriyunnathum kathu' a book authored by Dr.Remani P.S., Prof. of OBG was released by Dr.P.V.Krishnan Nair, Former Secretary, Kerala Sahithya Academy by handing over the first copy of the book to poetess Lalitha Lenin.
May 1st Dept. of Paediatrics in association with IAP, Thrissur organized an annual CME on “Update on Paediatric Subspecialities”.
May Dr.Manjunath won 2nd prize in paper presentation at Mild Criticon Kerala - 2019 at Kottayam.
May 2nd College Council Meeting was held.
May 3rd Dr.Joseph T.John, Prof. & Head of Forensic Medicine, Dr.S.Narayanan Potty, Prof. of General Medicine and Dr.Padmaja G.Nair, Prof. of Pharmacology took charge as the new Vice-Principals of the college.
May Dr.S.Ramaraj, Prof., Dept. of Paediatrics took charge as the Head of the Dept of Paediatrics.
May 6-9th PG Orientation programme for the 2019-20 batch PGs was held.
May 10th On the occasion of the 2nd Death anniversary of Fr.Gabriel CMI, Blood donation camp was organized. It was inaugurated by Fr.Shijo Chiriyankandath, Vicar, St.Joseph’s Church, Amala Nagar.
May Fr. Julius Arakal CMI, Joint Director has been selected for the post of Secretary of CBCI (Catholic Bishop’s Conference of India) Health Commission.
May 13th DM Pulmonary Medicine assessment was done by MCI.
May 95 out of 96 students passed second MBBS examinations – February 2019.
May 17th PULMOCON – 21st state conference of ‘Academy of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine’ and workshop on Sleep and Critical care workshop was organised by the Dept. of Respiratory Medicine.
May 23rd Cryo-biopsy machine, first in the district, was inaugurated by Dr.Jayachandra, Prof. & Head of Dept. of Pulmonology, Virinchi Hospital, Hyderabad.
May A felicitation gathering for the children of Amala staff who cleared the plus two and tenth standard board examinations – 2019 was organized.
May 27th Assessment for PG recognition of the Dept. of General Medicine was done by the MCI.
May 30th Assessment for PG recognition of the Dept. of Psychiatry was done by the MCI.
May 31st World “No Tobacco Day” programme was organized by Dept. of Pulmonary Medicine in association with Association of Pulmonologists Thrissur (APT). Dr.Rennis Davis administered the oath of tobacco free life to the public. In the programme magician, Mr.Biju Puthuruthy held a public interaction and awareness programme on the occasion.
June 1st South Indian Bank donated a Blood Bank ambulance as a part of CSR project to Amala Institute of Medical Sciences. The key of the ambulance was officially handed over by Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture Shri.Sunil Kumar V.S. Mr.Job P.M., Joint Manager of SIB was also present during the function.
June 3rd to 5th Curriculum Implementation Support Programme was conducted.
June 6th An awareness class on NIPAH virus fever was organized by the Hospital Infection Committee for the students and staff.
June 8th One day CME “Solving the maze” was organized by the Dept. of Pathology. It focused on the approach to diagnosis of Renal, skin and bone lesions. It also emphasized the importance of immunofluerence in Renal and skin biopsies and also Radio imaging techniques in Bone lesions.
June 9th The Dermatology department in association with the Thrissur Dermatology Club conducted Prof.Dr.Abdul Latheef memorial prize exam for MBBS students. 10 medical colleges participated.
Jun 11th Basic Suturing, knot tying and Operation Theatre Management program was conducted by AIMS with technical help from ETHICON for house surgeons.
June 14th In connection with World Blood Donor Day a blood donation camp was organized in the campus.
June 17th Letter of Permission was received for 2 seats in DM Pulmonary Medicine from MCI.
June 17th A protest meeting in connection with the assault on doctors in West Bengal was held by the IMA Amala Nagar.
June 21st Students’ Council inaugural ceremony was held in the Auditorium.
June 21st Free wig distribution and a felicitation for hair donors was organized in Amala Chapel.
June 22nd PTA open house for 2017 regular batch was organized.
June 23rd Dr.Arathy Jerald got first prize in poster presentation at Gokulam Derma Update 2019.
June 29th An Arthroscopy workshop was organized by the Dept. of Orthopaedics, Anatomy and Thrissur Orthopaedic Society in the institute at Anatomy Dissection Hall.
June 29th Dr.John George T. was awarded first prize in state level essay competition by Dept. of Economics and Statistics, Thrissur in connection with 13th National Statistics Day celebration.
July 5th to 7th EMPULSE - a three day national CME was organised by the department of Emergency Medicine and Amala College of Nursing in association with Academic College of Emergency Experts in India (ACEE), Emergency Medicine Association (EMA) India and the Indian Medical Association (IMA). Many programmes like two pre-conference workshops, oral paper and poster presentations along with scientific programme on core concepts in Emergency Medicine were organised.
July 10th Dept. of Community Medicine organized an orientation programme on updates of Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC) and National AIDS Control Programme (NACP). Dr.Chandrashekharan, Medical Manager, SAATHII, Kerala unit was the resource person.
August 2nd & 3rd Thesis protocol development workshop was conducted by the Dept. of Community Medicine for the First year PG students.
August Fr.Julius Arakal CMI was appointed as the Secretary of CBCI (Catholic Bishop’s Conference of India.
August 24th “Smoking Cessation CME” was organized by the dept. of Respiratory Medicine.
August “INSPIRE’ EM” -The inaugural session of an International Educational & Cultural Exchange Series was organsied. Dr Elena Klusova, a Group Executive from Europe, a Family Physician with subspecialisation in Emergency Medicine who works in Ibizza, Spain was the chief guest and invited speaker for the event. This was followed by a panel discussion. The session covered topics like emergencies in primary care, Expectation and Reality of Emergency Medicine, health exchange programmes, mentor-mentee programmes, life cycle challenges of doctors, prehospital and urgent care etc.
August 31st The inauguration and white coat ceremony of first year MBBS 2019 batch was held. Fr. Francis Kurissery CMI(Director) inaugurated the event and gave the inaugural address. Dr. Betsy Thomas(Principal) gave the presidential address and administered the oath. Dr. K Bhavadas(Medical Superintendent), Adv. Saju John K (PTA President) offered felicitation and Dr. Vijayalakshmi Nair (Staff Advisor) delivered the vote of thanks.
September 1st Prof. Dr.Jayakumar T.G. was appointed as the new HOD of Cardiology.
September Sreelakshmi K. and Arunima M.Nair of 2015 MBBS batch students won the third prize in All Kerala MBBS quiz competition held at Hotel Casino, Thrissur in the 35th Annual Conference of Kerala state branch of Indian Psychiatric Society.
September 2nd The super specialty classes of DM Pulmonary Medicine, DM Cardiology and M.Ch. Neurosurgery were inaugurated.
September Department of Medical Oncology was revamped to Department of Medical oncology and Hematology (DMOH). Dr.Sunu Lazar Cyriac DM (Medical Oncology), Consultant cum Asst. Prof. and Dr.Sreeraj V. DM (Clinical Hematology), Consultant cum Asst. Prof. have joined the department.
September 7th The College Student’s Council organized Onam Celebration ‘Pakalpooram’. The programme was inaugurated by the Director Fr. Francis Kurissery CMI. Inauguration was followed by various cultural programmes and games.
September 21st World Alzheimer’s Day was celebrated and as part of this celebration free memory screening camp was organised.
September 25th World Pharmacy Day was celebrated.
September 28th World Heart Day was celebrated by Cardiology Department. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. C Ravindran, Minister of Education of the Government of Kerala.
October 9th South India’s first MRI HD-28 scan in the Department of Radiodiagnosis was inaugurated by the Director, Fr.Francis Kurissery CMI.
October 16th Dr.Raghavan P., Professor,Department of Anesthesiology took charge as the Head of the Department.
October 18th Dr.Shiny John, Professor, Department of Psychiatry took charge as the Head of the Department.
November 1st A Blood donation camp was organised on Kerala Piravi day.
November 1st ,2nd ,4th Orientation program for interns (2014 supple, Batch) was organised.
November 3rd The Feast of St. Mariam Thresia was celebrated and plaque of St. Mariam Thresia was unveiled by Mar. Antony Kariyil CMI, Arch Episcopal Vicar, Angamaly – Ernakulam Archdiocese. The Neonatal ICU was renamed after St. Mariam Thresia by Rev. Fr. Dr. Paul Achandy CMI, Prior General.
November Dr. Joe Abraham, PG student (2016 batch), Dept. of Community Medicine bagged Dr. C.R. Soman Award for best Post Graduate Dissertation.
November 13th In All Kerala OBG quiz for UGs, Antony Jaison Augustine and Thej Pankaj Third MBBS Part II students of the college bagged second prize.
November Dr. Subin Koshy, PG student (2017 batch), Dept. of Community Medicine won Best paper Award for oral presentation at Amritha International Public Health Conference 2019.
November 23rd Dr. Kalyani Pillai, Prof. of Paediatrics was awarded Oommen John Memorial Award for best publication at the Kannur Pedicon 2019 held at E.K.Nayanar Academy
November Dr. Fabina Abdul Gafoor, PG student, Dept. of Psychiatry, was awarded first prize for best paper at 52nd Annual Conference of the Indian Psychiatric Society South Zonal Branch (IPSOCON 2019) at the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences, Madikeri, Coorg, Karnataka.
November Dr. Aswathy M.G., PG student (2016 batch), Dept. of Community Medicine secured second rank in the Medical Post Graduate Degree Examinations, KUHS, April 2019.
November 23rd Dr. Jawhara Jalaludeen PG student, Dept. of Paediatrics won first prize in Poster Presentation (PG) at the Kannur Pedicon 2019 held at E.K.Nayanar Academy.
December 5th 2014 MBBS batch reg. & suppl. Batch interns had protocol orientation programme conducted by the Dept. of Forensic Medicine.
December Dr. Fabina Gafoor, PG student, Dept of Psychiatry won 2nd prize in State level Psychiatry PG CME poster presentation held at GMC, Kozhikode.
December 8th CME programme – ARC 2019 (Amala Radiology Conference) Paediatric Radiology was conducted by Dept. of Radiodiagnosis.
December 6th & 7th 11th Amala – Galderma dermatology Gold medal exam and 6th Amala Dermatology Oration 2019 conducted by the Dept. of Dermatology. Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal Hon’ble VC, KUHS and Dr. S. Sachidanand, Ho’ble VC, Rajiv Gandhi University, of Health Sciences, Bangaluru were the chief Guests respectively. Dermatology Oration was delivered by Dr.S.Anandan, Dean, Sri Ramachandra Hospital, Chennai.
December Dr.Paul O Raphael, Dept. of Anaesthesiology received ‘National Proficiency Award’ for his contribution and outstanding service to the society which was presented at the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologist Conference 2019 held at Bangalore.
December 11th A Blood donation camp was organized on 106th birthday of Padmabhushan Fr.Gabriel CMI.
December 14th & 15th Amala Medicine & Rheumatology CME – 2019 was organised by the department of General Medicine in association with the department of Clinical Immunlogy and Rheumatology.
December 28th 3rd Amala Oncology International Faculty lecture was conducted by the Dept. of Medical Oncology and Haematology by Prof. Rajat Kumar, Director of Haematology and Professor, University Of Toronto, Canada.
December 30th AIMS and IMA Amala Nagar branch conducted Scientific session on the topic “Proton pump inhibitors” – The good, bad and the unwanted Speaker: Dr. Anoob John K.A, Gastroenterologist, AIMS.
December International committee, Joint Monitoring Mission (JMM) had visited Amala RNTCP centre and monitored the activities. Our DOTS Centre was chosen by the Govt. For the visit in view of the good performance. Committee appreciated the activities conducted by DOTS Centre.
December Dr. Jayaprakash, Prof. & HOD of Orthopaedics received Fellow Award of KOA (Kerala Orthopaedic Association). Dr.Sanjay N., PG of Ortho, received Best Paper and Gold Medal Award – Dr. K C Jacob Memorial Gold Medal for PGs.
