January 7th, 2017 PTA open house for 2016 MBBS batch was conducted on 07.01.2017. General gathering was addressed by Joint Director and Principal. Academic performance of the students was discussed by faculty of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry with the students and parents. Prizes to toppers of 1st sessional examination were distributed.
January, 2017 PG Medical Education Committee of MCI has recommended to Health and Family Welfare Dept., Govt. of India to recognize our second seat of MD Radiodiagnosis, second seat of MD Dermatology, 2 seats of DM Cardiology and two seats of MD General Medicine granted by KUHS.
January 16th, 2017 15 out of 16 students of 2011 additional batch passed III MBBS Part II exam conducted in Sept. 2016, pass percentage being 94. Their internship started on 16.01.2017 with an orientation programme.
January 21st, 2017 Cervical Cancer Survivors meet was organised on 21.01.2017 as part of cancer awareness programme “Cognizance” of Students’ Council.
January 22nd, 2017 Dr.Maria Rose T. Plazid and Dr.Sreeja Raj won third prize in ENT – PG Quiz 2017 held on 22.01.2017 at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. 1st and 2nd prize went to Govt. Medical College, Calicut.
February, 2017 Dr.Admi V.Karaniyil secured top position in MS General Surgery exam conducted by KUHS in June 2016. 75 candidates had appeared for the examination.
February 4th, 2017 On World Cancer Day 04.02.2017 Oncology Dept. and College Students’ Council organized a procession for cancer awareness which was inaugurated by Sri.V.O.Chummar, President Adat Panchayat. Cancer Survivors meet was inaugurated by Mrs.Valsala Menon, Cine Artist.
February 4th, 2017 Interdepartmental PG seminar on Myasthenia Gravis was conducted by Dept. of Physiology
February 9th, 2017 Amala Cancer Research Centre organized 36th Annual Conference of Indian Association for Cancer Research from 9th to 11th February 2017. Theme of conference was ‘The 21st Century – War on Cancer’. Dr.M.K.C Nair, Vice Chancellor of KUHS inaugurated the event
February 15th, 2017 Social Work Dept. organized a national conference ‘ALMONERS-2017’ on 15th February 2017. The conference was inaugurated by Rev.Fr.Dr.Paul Achandy, Prior General of CMI Congregation.
March 8th, 2017 International Women’s Day and World Kidney Day 2017 was inaugurated on 8th March, 2017 by Ms.P.N.Seetha, Hon’ble Chief Judicial Magistrate. Awareness class was taken by Dr. Jayanth Thomas Mathew, Prof. & HOD of Nephrology. Health talk on Anaemia and cancer was given by house surgeons at RHTC, Kallur.
March 8th, 2017 Arunima M.Nair (2015 batch) and Ken Sonny (2016 batch) secured third prize in Anatomy quiz competition – ANACON 2017 – held at Govt. Medical College, Calicut.
March 18th, 2017 Department of Radiation Oncology organized Head & Neck Cancer CME.
April 2nd, 2017 Dept. of Obstetrics & Gynaecology conducted CME on Abnormal Uterine Bleeding.
April 7th, 2017 As part of World Health Day, the staff and students of Dept. of Psychiatry conducted screening for depression in three old age homes at Shantimandiram in Tholur Panchayat, Shantinikethan and Blessed Mother Theresa Sadan in Adat Panchayat.
April 7th, 2017 Fr.Jose Sales Memorial Basket Ball Tournament was held on 7th & 8th April 2017. 12 boys teams and 5 girls teams participated in the event.
April 8th, 2017 Dept. of Community Medicine organized CME on Adult Immunization.
April 9th, 2017 Amala Institute of Medical Sciences in collaboration with Haemophilia Society, Kunnamkulam chapter organized CME on Haemophilia in connection with World Haemophilia Day on 17th April, 2017.
April 18th, 2017 12 out of 13 students of 2015 supplementary batch passed 1st MBBS examination conducted in February 2017, pass percentage being 92.3%. Their second MBBS classes started with an orientation programme.
April 19th, 2017 Sensitization session on Newer Updates in Diagnosis and Treatment of Tuberculosis under RNTCP was organised by the Dept. of Community Medicine. Dr.Shibu Balakrishnan WHO Consultant delivered lecture on this topic.
April 21st, 2017 Health & Family Welfare Dept., Govt. of India has recognized our 4 seats of MS General Surgery and 2 seats of MD General Medicine.
May 2nd, 2017 Basic suturing, knot tying and Operation Theatre Management programme for interns was conducted at practical laboratory of Dept. of Forensic Medicine. Dr.Asok Ninan Oommen was the faculty for the programme conducted with the technical help from Ethicon.
May 2nd, 2017 78 out of 79 students passed in the III MBBS Part I February 2017 examination, pass percentage being 99%. 41 students got first class.
May 19th, 2017 Fine Arts competitions – TARANG 2017 – organised by Students’ Council was held on 19th and 20th May, 2017. Sri.Suchit Sureshan play back singer inaugurated the closing ceremony.
May 20th, 2017 In the second MBBS examination February 2017, 83 out of 90 students passed, pass percentage being 92%. There were 10 distinctions and 61 first classes.
May 26th, 2017 Nanma programme – 2017 organised by Community Medicine Dept. at Kollannoor Samskarika Nilayam, Puttekkara was inaugurated by Mr.Therambil Ramakrishnan, former MLA and Speaker. MBBS students of 2014 batch actively participated in the programme which included social service and financial help.
May 27th, 2017 CME on Pharmacovigilance was conducted at Amala on 27th May, 2017. It was organised by Pharmacovigilance centre of JSS Medical College, Mysore in collaboration with Dept. of Pharmacology, Amala Institute of Medical Sciences. Dr.M.N.Rema, former HOD of Pharmacology of AIMS was the guest of Honour. The programme was inaugurated by Rev.Fr.Francis Kurissery, Director.
June 1st, 2017 In connection with the commencement of PG courses 2017, inaugural ceremony was conducted. 37 students joined for the course.
June 1st, 2017 Dr.E.V.Krishnakumar, Associate Professor of Pulmonology won the Young Pulmonologist Award of Academy of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, for 2017. The award was presented by Justice P.Sadasivam, Governor of Kerala.
June 14th, 2017 Blood donation camp organised on World Blood Donor Day was inaugurated by Sri.C.J.Anto, Kaiparambu panchayath president.
June 21st, 2017 An awareness class for students on Yoga and its demonstration by the Art of Living Foundation, Thrissur chapter was organised by the Dept. of Community Medicine in the College Auditorium.
June, 2017 2012 regular batch achieved 100% result in the final MBBS Part II examination of KUHS conducted in April 2017. There was one distinction and 22 first classes. Archana Lakshmanan topped the list.
June 29th, 2017 In the Value Added Education Programme for 2013, 2014 and 2015 batches of MBBS students held on 29.06.2017, Dr.Agnessamma Jacob, Retd. HOD of Pathology gave a talk on “Social Sensitivity of Medical Professionals”.
June 30th, 2017 RNTCP Institutional Core Committee meeting was held on 30.06.2017. Statistical data for the last quarter was presented and discussed.
July 1st, 2017 Internship of 2012 MBBS Regular Batch started with a 3 days orientation programme on 1st, 4th and 5th July.
July 1st, 2017 Doctors’ Day was celebrated in collaboration with IMA Amala Nagar Branch. Dr.Sojan George, Consultant in Gastroenterology gave a talk on “Fatty liver”.
July 5th, 2017 Dept. of Community Medicine organized a one day workshop on ‘Thesis Protocol Development’ for 1st year PG students.
July 6th, 2017 PTA meeting for the 2015 regular batch was held.
July 7th to 8th, 2017 Amala Medical College men’s team became runners up in the KUHS Interzone Basket ball championship held at Christ Vidyanikethan School, Irinjalakuda.
July 13th, 2017 In the KUHS PG examination-June 2017, 31 out of 34 students passed, pass percentage being 91%.
July 13th to 14th, 2017 Amala Boys table tennis team came first and girl’s team third in the KUHS Interzone Table Tennis Tournament held at VPSV Ayurveda College, Kottakkal. Abraham Joseph of 2015 batch was the individual champion.
July 15th, 2017 MD Pulmonary Medicine seat was granted recognition by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
July 19th to 21st, 2017 Amala Institute of Medical Sciences secured 12th position in the KUHS Central Zone Arts fest ‘THIRA’ held at Govt. Medical College, Kottayam.
July 21st to 23rd, 2017 National Conference of Obstetrics & Gynaecology YUVAFOGSI – TOGSICON 2017 was organised in Hotel LULU International.Dr. Betsy Thomas, Prof. of OBG was the organizing secretary. As part of this conference a cadaveric workshop was conducted in Amala under the guidance of Dr. Mini Kariappa, HOD Anatomy. Dr. Betsy and Dr.Prameela Menon were the local co-ordinators.
July, 2017 Students’ Council 2017-18 assumed responsibilities.
August,2017 Amala Medical College Students’ Council gave a farewell – ‘HASTA LA VISTA’ – to 2011 batch graduates. Inaugural ceremony was followed by cultural events and dinner.
August 6th, 2017 Graduation ceremony of 99 MBBS students of 2011 batch was held at 10 am at Amala Campus. Dr.L.V.Swarnam, former Principal of Amala Medical College was the Chief Guest for the ceremony, presided over by Rev.Fr.Walter Thelappilly CMI, Provincial & Trustee-in-Chief. Graduation ceremony was followed by cultural programme in the evening.
August 9th, 2017 Dept. of Community Medicine conducted quiz competition for PG students in connection with the World Breast Feeding week. Two teams from Paediatrics, one team from OBG and one team from College of Nursing participated. PG students Dr.Elizabeth Cyriac and Dr.Mereena George (2016 batch) from the Dept. of Obstetrics & Gynaecology won the first prize and Dr.Shisira Philip and Dr.Sajana G.L. (2016 batch) from the Dept. of Paediatrics won the second prize.
August 11th, 2017 Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Protocol Workshop organized by IAP Thrissur was conducted at Amala Institute of Medical Sciences.
August 11th, 2017 MBBS students of 2015 batch had their autopsy training at Bangalore Medical College.
August 12th, 2017 Dept. of Pathology organized 79th IAPM Kerala Chapter meeting. The function was presided over by Dr.Krishna Balachandran, Chairperson IAPM Kerala Chapter.
August 15th, 2017 PG students of General Medicine Dr. Reshma Venugopal & Dr. Ahammed Ashar N.T.of 2016 batch won the 2nd prize and Dr.Joseph T.Antony & Dr.Rameez Ahmad Roshan of 2015 batch won the 3rd prize among the 16 teams participated in the PG Rheumatology Quiz conducted by Indian Rheumatology Association Kerala Chapter.
August 30th, 2017 Medical camp was conducted at Kaiparambu Panchayath by the Dept. of Community Medicine. Onam kits were distributed to poor families on the occasion.
August, 2017 Antiragging awareness programme was conducted for 2013, 2014 and 2015 batches. Adv.Sebi Joseph gave a talk on the legal aspects of ragging.
August 31st, 2017 Onam celebration of College Students’ Council ‘THAYAMBAKA’ was held.
September 2nd, 2017 Biochemistry questions and answers guide for 1 st MBBS students authored by Dr.Ajith T.A., Prof. of Biochemistry was released by the Director Rev.Fr.Francis Kurissery.
September 07th, 2017 Eye Donation Campaign – JYOTHIS – was organized by College Students’ Council.
September 08th, 2017 Inauguration of the commencement of MBBS course of 2017 batch.
September 09th to 12th, 2017 Orientation programme for the freshers was conducted.
September 24th, 2017 Dept. of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology conducted the fourth CME of the Dept., “Rheumatology for everyone”. Medical quiz for post graduates was also conducted as part of the CME.
September 29th, 2017 Dept. of Community Medicine conducted meeting of the Prevention of Epidemics and Infections Diseases (PEID) cell.
September 29th, 2017 World Heart Day was celebrated. Dr.Joy Elamon, Director of KILA inaugurated the programme.
October 04th, 2017 National Blood Donation Day 2017 was marked by blood donation camp in Amala. The function was inaugurated by Sri.Shiju S.S., Sub Inspector of Police, Peramangalam.
October 06th, 2017 The Dept. of Community Medicine organized MR vaccination campaign training for doctors as part of Measles elimination and Rubella control strategy. Dr.Unnikrishnan K, District RCH Officer, Thrissur gave training to the PG students of Community Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Biochemistry departments.
October 11th, 2017 Four PG students Dr. Al- Ameen, MD Biochemistry, Dr. Aravind S, PG Diploma in Dermatology, Dr. Aravind R, MS Orthopaedics and Dr. Karthika Rajan, MD Anaesthesiology became the rank holders for Medical PG Degree & Diploma Examinations by Kerala University Of Health sciences. Dr. Al- Ameen, and Dr. Aravind S came first, Dr. Aravind R came second and Dr. Karthika Rajan came third in the University Examinations..
October 12th, 2017 Abhijith K.V. of 2014 MBBS batch won 1st prize in KUHS chess competition conducted at P K Das Institute of Medical Sciences, Palakkad.
October 13th, 2017 National Paediatrics Neurology Conference was held. Rev.Fr.Francis Kurissery, Director, inaugurated the conference.
October 13th, 2017 PTA meeting of MBBS students of 2014 regular batch was held.
October 14th, 2017 Dept. of Psychiatry conducted a seminar on “Mental Health Issues in Teachers”.
October 13th to 15th, 2017 Dr.Sreeja Raj V, Final year MS ENT student won gold medal for the best PG paper and Nikhil G and Jibin Joseph, MBBS students of 2014 batch secured 3rd prize in the undergraduate quiz competition in the South zone ENT conference held at Ida Scudder Convention Centre, Madurai.
October 15th, 2017 Dr.Kavitarati Dharwadkar, Assoc. Professor of Biochemistry was highly appreciated for poster presentation on “Need for change in UG Biochemistry curriculum” at the 2nd contact session of Advanced course in Medical Education conducted in MCI Nodal Centre for faculty Development at Govt. MC Kottayam.
October 20th, 2017 Dr. C Jayaprakash, Prof. and HOD of Orthopaedics won Life Time Achievement Award and Dr. Dominic Puthoor, Assoc. Professor won Oncosurgery speciality award of Indian Medical Association (Trichur Branch). The awards were given at a function in Thrissur.
October 21st, 2017 PTA meeting of MBBS students of 2013 regular batch was held.
October 21st, 2017 Dr.Manjunath V. Motagi, Associate Professor of Anatomy successfully completed the Advance course in Medical Education at MCI Nodal Centre for Faculty Development, Govt. Medical College, Kottayam.
October 22nd, 2017 Dept. of Orthopaedics conducted a CME on Spine Tumours. Dr.Libin Thomas and Dr. Leo Francis, 2015 batch PG students of the department won 1st prize in state level quiz competition conducted as part of the CME. 4 teams from different colleges participated in the quiz.
October 25th, 2017 Students Council ‘Advaya’ organized a panel discussion on M R Vaccination. Dr.C R Saju, HOD Community Medicine, Dr.Santhosh R., WHO consultant, Dr. Pradeesh C B, Medical Officer PHC, Deshamangalam and Dr.Sr.Julia, Senior Resident of Paediatrics were the panelists. Dr.Jenyz M.Mundodan, Asst. Prof. of Community Medicine was the moderator.
October 28th, 2017 CME on Sleep and Related Disorders was conducted by the Dept. of Physiology. Dr.V.V.Unnikrishnan, Prof. of Physiology and Academic Dean of KUHS was the Chief Guest.
October 28th, 2017 Value Education Programme for 2017 batch was conducted. Dr.Agnessamma Jacob, Retd. Prof. of Pathology gave a talk on “Patient as a Human Being”.
November 04th, 2017 96 out of 100 students of 2016 batch passed the 1st MBBS exam conducted in August 2017, pass percentage being 96. There were 16 distinctions and 66 first classes – Amala Medical College came second among all medical colleges.
November 04th, 2017 Femur affected by cancer was taken out and subjected to extracorporeal irradiation for removal of cancer cells and placed back in an extraordinary procedure conducted by the Dept. of Orthopaedics. The successful operation was performed by Dr.Dominic K.Puthoor assisted by Dr.Dijoe Davis, Dr.Revi.N and Dr.Jomon Raphael.
November 05th, 2017 Amala Surgicon 2017 was organized by the Dept. of General Surgery.
November 06th, 2017 Interbatch Athletics meet 2017 ‘AAGNEYA’ was conducted.
November 07th, 2017 Value Education Programme was conducted for 2013 (supple.), 2014 & 2015 (reg. & supple.) and 2016 (reg.) batches. Dr.P.K.Mohanan (Chembukkavu), Professor of Surgery gave a talk on “Attitude and Professionalism in Medical Practice”.
November 11th, 2017 Mother & Child club meeting – 2017 was organised. Mother and Child Club was inaugurated by Mr.T.S.Kalyanaraman, MD of Kalyan Group, Janani mother care was inaugurated by Mr.Anil Akkara MLA and Paediatric week was inaugurated by Rev.Fr.Walter Thelappilly CMI, Provincial. Director felicitated Dr.M.R.Chandran, Principal on his nomination as senate member of KUHS. Mr.P.Vahid ACP Thrissur gave a talk on “No to Drugs”.
November 13th to 17th, 2017 Amala Infection control week was celebrated. The programme organised by the HIC Dept. consisted of poster competition, hand hygiene dance competition, medical exhibition, quiz competition, flash mob by 2015 MBBS batch and ward orientation by nursing students. The programme concluded with a CME programme on “Infection Prevention Practices” valedictory function was inaugurated by Dr.Jose Joseph, Principal of Govt. Medical College, Kottayam.
November 15th, 2017 COPD Day 2017 was organized by the Dept. of Pulmonary Medicine. Dr. Davis Paul, Prof. of Respiratory Medicine gave an awareness talk.
November 17th, 2017 Amala Com Quiz was conducted by the Dept. of Community Medicine. Adult Immunization clinic was also inaugurated by Dr.Jose Joseph, Prof. of Community Medicine and Principal of Kottayam Medical College.
November 17th, 2017 Dr.Navya J.Thaikkattil of 2014 batch who passed MD Community Medicine exam in June 2017 won Dr.C.R.Soman Award for Best PG Thesis in Kerala for the year 2017.
November 17th, 2017 D.Sreedevi.K, Asst. Prof. of ENT passed MRCS examination in ENT. Dr.Indu.K, Asst. Prof. of Radiodiagnosis passed Fellowship exam of Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) in October 2017.
November 25th, 2017 Value Education programme for 2017 batch of MBBS students was conducted. Dr.Betsy Thomas, Prof. of OBG gave a talk on “Sanctification of interpersonal relationship”.
November 25th, 2017 Students’ Council Day programme was conducted. ‘ADVAYA’–Students’Council 2017-18 was inaugurated by Ms.Siddhi Mahajankatti. Rev.Fr.Francis Kurissery, Director distributed cash awards and certificates to 2016 batch MBBS students who scored distinction marks in first MBBS exam. Dr.M.R.Chandran Principal administered the oath to council members.
November 25th, 2017 RED (Rescue Every Dream) an initiative of ‘ADVAYA’ (Amala Students’ council 2017-18) was launched. This is to ensure availability of blood to the patients in need within Amala.
November 26th, 2017 Amala Radiology Conference – ARC 2017 featuring updates on Emergency Radiology was conducted. Dr.K.Mohanan, Prof. and HOD of Radiodiagnosis, MES Medical College, Perinthalmanna was the Chief Guest of the function. Dr.V.Balakrishnan, Professor Emeritus was honoured on the occasion.
December 3rd, 2017 Dept. of General Medicine conducted a CME programme.
December 7th, 2017 College Students’ Council organised Christmas celebrations “ESPERANZA”.
All 22 students of 2013 supplementary batch who appeared for final MBBS Part I examination in September 2017 passed the examination.
20 out of 25 students of 2012 supplementary batch passed the final MBBS Part II September 2017 exam – the pass percentage is 80.
December 11th, 2017 104th Birthday of Late Padma Bhushan Rev.Fr.Gabriel Chiramel CMI was marked by blood donation camp with 104 blood donations, inaugurated by Er.R.K.Revi, former student of Fr.Gabriel. Amala Hospital was declared as Elderly Friendly Hospital by Rev.Fr.Walter Thelappilly, Trustee in Chief and Provincial. Facility for Adult immunization of elderly was also launched on the occasion.
December 16th, 2017 Value Education programme was conducted for 2017 MBBS students. Dr.Sojan George, Asst. Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology gave a talk on “Responsibilities of a medical student to community”.
December 22nd, 2017 One Amala-one Christmas celebration was held.
December 23rd, 2017 PTA open house for 2017 MBBS batch was organised. PTA Executive Committee was held on the same day. Report on major academic events and student council activities and budget for 2017-18 were presented.
