Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, named after Blessed Mary Immaculate, is a Christian Minority Institution which is open to all irrespective of religion, caste or creed. It aims at giving effective nursing and medical training to the youth to become the professionals devoted to the healing ministry. AIMS is a unit of Amala Cancer Hospital Society managed by the Devamatha Province (CMI) founded by Bl. Kuriakose Alias Chavara, a sage cum servant. Department of School of Nursing which started in 1980 is a pioneer institute in Nursing and Midwifery Education of Amala. We aim to render service to the country, community and individual by offering professional and personal development, thereby yielding excellent output to Nursing field throughout the world. We render quality based nursing education with advanced clinical practice to the students.
This educational Programme enables the students to acquire adequate knowledge and skill to give efficient nursing care. It has been geared towards development of positive attitude health nursing and community health nursing.
This Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery course is of 3 years duration. The course is conducted as per the syllabus prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council. Diploma is awarded by the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council.

School of Nursing is a part of the 1000+ bedded Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, which is a Multi-speciality Hospital. The School is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council (KNMC). We have provisions for the practical experience of our students in community health. School of Nursing is located in a separate building within the hospital premises. There are separate offices for the Principal and Teaching Staff. We have a library which satisfies the literature requirements of students and staffs. Our students have good hostel facility. We have an annual intake of 40 students and by this time 800 students enrolled in service. The Authority and Faculty of this Institution give individual attention and guidance.
The students of Amala Nursing School exhibit excellence in SNA activities. They take full participation in zonal and state SNA sports and cultural activities. Amala School of Nursing maintained as the best unit in zonal level, also obtained shield for the best SNA unit in state in 2008 and 2nd prize in 2009.
